It is with the deepest of regret that the Board of Directors of the Great Plains Rodeo Association, Inc., must announce the cancellation of the 2020 Great Plains Rodeo scheduled for May 30-31, 2020, at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. This is not a decision we make easily; however, current circumstances dictate no alternative.

 

Both the City of Oklahoma City and the State of Oklahoma have declared states of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As to the City’s declaration, all public events of 50 persons or more in any City venue are prohibited for eight weeks beginning March 15th. Based upon consultation with City officials and information from the Oklahoma State Department of Health, Oklahoma City-County Health Department, and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, it is highly likely that the declaration will be extended for at least several weeks after its present scheduled end date of mid-May. Our venue is a City-owned facility.

 

The members of GPRA sincerely looked forward to returning our rodeo to the IGRA circuit after a three-year hiatus. We realize that many of you did as well, which makes this decision all the more difficult. However, we are confident this present cloud will disparate with time, and we will work toward making the 2021 Great Plains Rodeo the best event possible.
